Meet Baxter – a fun, clever young Beagle

Name: Baxter
Age: 2 years (born August 2023)
Breed: Beagle (Tri-colour)
Sex: Male – neutered
Weight: 15.3 kg

About Baxter:
Baxter is a bright, energetic young Beagle who loves long walks, exploring scents, and cuddles. He’s very affectionate, playful, and enjoys being with his people.

Health:
Baxter has mild patella luxation (a loose knee), but this doesn’t cause problems as long as he gets regular exercise. His anal glands need to be emptied every 4–6 weeks. Otherwise, he’s healthy and active.

Personality:
Baxter is loving, curious, and full of life. He can be noisy if startled by people or objects like wheelie bins or trolleys but settles quickly. He’s clever and responsive, learning lots of commands and routines. He likes company, massages, and watching the world from the window.

Training & Routine:

  • Housetrained (may wee when anxious at first)
  • Not crate trained but behaves well when left alone
  • Can be left for short periods (up to 6 hours after good exercise)
  • Travels okay in the car with patience and treats
  • Good recall in safe areas but must stay on lead near livestock
  • Eats Carnilove Salmon or Lamb & Wild Boar twice a day
  • Sleeps in his bed or on the sofa in the lounge

Good with:

  • Friendly dogs – he loves playing at doggy day care
  • Calm, understanding people
  • Children – indifferent but gentle

Needs work with:

  • Confidence in the car
  • Ignoring distractions like bins and carts
  • Learning clearer ways to ask for things (he’s getting there!)

Likes:

  • Long walks and runs
  • Playing with other dogs
  • Sniffing and “find-it” games
  • Chewing safe sticks or deer antlers
  • Massages and cuddles

Dislikes:

  • Loud noises and strong smells
  • Showers and having his face wiped

Ideal home:
Baxter would love an active home with plenty of exercise and patient owners who can continue his gentle training. He’d be happy with or without another dog, as long as he gets time to play and explore.

Reason for rehoming:
His owner is sadly facing financial difficulties and wants to find Baxter a stable, loving home where he can thrive
