Sunday 4th June 2017
The Great North Dog Walk was founded in 1990 by Tony Carlisle who has organised the event every year since. Tony is known in the region for his charitable events and has also been named United Kingdom Fundraiser of the Year twice, raising over 6.2 million pounds for charitable causes.
Beagle Welfare became a beneficiary for the Great North Dog Walk in 2014 when Mark and I, along with some members of our Facebook group North East and Border Beagles, attended our first Great North Dog Walk in support of Beagle Welfare on Sunday 8th June 2014. This was the fourth year that we organised Beagle Welfare’s part in the event and it was yet another huge success.
We had an amazing day walking the 3.5-mile circular route along the Leas at South Shields sea-front. Stalls for different animal charities were held, including one by new sponsors YuMove Dog, who gave all participants a doggy bag full of treats at the finishing line.
Thank you to everyone who took part: especially Brigette Taylor, Chelsea Robertson and Julie Hewson who helped me man the Beagle Welfare stall, and of course Mark Parker who helped set up and was photographer for the day. A huge thank you to everyone who donated raffle and tombola prizes and to those who sponsored us. An amazing £960.53 including gift aid was raised for Beagle Welfare plus lots of merchandise was sold on the stall too.
Next year the walk will be held in June 2018, date to be confirmed, and we will be there again with the Beagle Welfare stall. We are expecting lots more beagles and even more money raised for Beagle Welfare!
