Bruce came to live with us just before Christmas in 2012, a very shouty boy ready to take on the world and pick a fight with any dog we happened to meet on a walk! Admittedly he was hard work but fortunately we became aware of the equivalent of a parent and toddler group for dogs and their owners which we attended twice a week. There Bruce learnt to socialise, realise he wasn’t top dog and subsequently became part of the pack. After that walks became much more enjoyable and certainly less fraught!
Always the master of escape, even going from the car to the back garden meant he had to be put on his lead otherwise we would spend hours visiting everybody’s garden before being brought home in shame.
Bruce never won any prizes for his looks but he was always smiling and won many a rosette for the waggiest tail culminating in winning Best in Show at the Beagle Welfare Ruby Anniversary.
In October 2021 he was diagnosed with multiple liver tumours after a collapse at home and we were advised of the kindest thing to do . . .
However Bruce had other ideas and 13 months, 3 holidays, his usual walks and demands later, he decided it was time so after a day of cuddles he passed away very peacefully. Our daughter’s beagle Bella missed him dreadfully but he taught her everything a beagle ought to know!
Thank you for entrusting Bruce to our care, it was a privilege to have given him his forever home and I hope we didn’t disappoint him.
We still miss him dreadfully and don’t feel quite ready to have another dog but when we do I know there will be another special boy waiting for us!
Best Wishes and love to all the beagles
