About Stanley

Stanley is a lively, energetic young beagle who loves life, fun, and lots of attention. He is full of personality and is an enthusiastic, playful companion with a cheeky sense of humour.

Unfortunately, due to his high energy levels and playful rough-and-tumble style, he is proving too much for the older resident dog in the home. His boisterous play has led to the older dog becoming injured at times, and with neighbours nearby, his barking and excitement are also difficult to manage in a flat environment.

Stanley’s Training & Behaviour

  • Lead trained: Walks well on a chest harness. Pulls without it.
  • Recall: Currently no recallcannot be let off lead except in an enclosed, secure area.
  • Training classes: Not attended.
  • Travelling: Will travel in the car.
  • Crate behaviour: Sleeps well in his crate at night; will cry for a while if left during the day.
  • Can be left alone: A few hours if crated.
  • Destructive: Will chew when bored or unattended — especially wooden items and shoes.
  • Stealing items: Yes, he will grab things; so the correct approach needed with retrieving items when needed.
  • Aggression: None towards people or dogs.
  • Other dogs: Wants to play with all dogs, but his enthusiasm may overwhelm them. Best as an only dog.
  • Cats: No — he chases them.
  • Food behaviour:
    • Very food-motivated
    • Will not eat peacefully around other dogs
    • Can guard food from other dogs

    • Surfaces must be clear — he counter-surfs

Stanley’s Personality

Stanley is bright, energetic, intelligent, and emotional. He loves being the centre of attention and wants to be involved in everything his humans are doing. He is not overly cuddly when excited, but when he’s tired, he loves to snuggle under blankets.

He is lively, agile, and smart — a beagle through and through — and he needs plenty of activity, training, and consistency to help him flourish.

He is a wonderful dog who simply needs the right environment.

The Ideal Home for Stanley

Stanley will suit:
✔ An active home
✔ A family or adult-only household that can give him time, training, and routine
✔ A home with NO other dogs or cats
✔ Someone experienced with energetic breeds or ready to commit to training
✔ A home with a secure garden
✔ Someone who enjoys outdoor adventures and long walks

Despite all the challenges listed, Stanley truly is a lovely, affectionate, fun dog with heaps of potential. He has so many wonderful qualities — he just needs a home that can guide his energy and help him grow into the brilliant companion he’s meant to be.

(And yes — he does have an adorably strange habit of trying to poo while balancing on plants, flowers, or tree stumps!)
