Scout – 4–5 Year Old Male
Scout is a 4–5 year old male beagle looking for a new home. He is a medium-sized boy (approx. 13–15 inches tall, 12.4kg) with a calm, laid-back nature and a very affectionate side once he feels comfortable.
He is castrated, microchipped, and up to date with worming. He has no known health issues.
About Scout
Scout is a gentle, easygoing dog who enjoys a relaxed lifestyle. He isn’t overly demanding and is happy to have his own space, but will come to you for affection when he wants it. He’s not particularly interested in toys, tending to lose interest quickly, but he enjoys being around his people.
He travels well and is generally well-behaved on the lead, although he can pull slightly at times. He is currently walked on a harness and lead.
Home Environment
Scout would be best suited to a calm, experienced home that understands beagle behaviour and is willing to continue working with him.
- Housetraining: Not fully house trained and will need ongoing, patient training
- Crate training: Not suitable – becomes distressed in a crate
- Being left alone: Can be left for short periods (up to 2 hours), but may have accidents if left longer
- Garden: Secure garden required (he is not known to escape fenced areas)
Behaviour & Socialisation
Scout currently lives with other dogs and can do so successfully, but he does have food-related guarding behaviours.
- Good with other dogs overall, but protective over food
- No issues meeting dogs on lead
- Off-lead recall is unreliable, especially in familiar areas
- Can live with other dogs with careful feeding management
Important Considerations
Scout is very food-motivated and can display guarding behaviours:
- May snatch food or treats
- Can become defensive if food is taken away
- Will scavenge or knock over bins if food is accessible
Because of this, he will need:
- A home experienced with food guarding or willing to manage it
- Careful feeding routines and boundaries
Children & Other Pets
Scout can be around children, but only in a food-managed environment:
- Calm and relaxed with children when no food is involved
- Not suitable for young children
He has not lived with cats, so this is unknown.
Reason for Rehoming
This is a very difficult decision, but with a baby on the way and Scout not being house trained, we are no longer able to manage his needs alongside creating a safe and clean environment for a newborn. We want to find him a home that can give him the time, patience, and structure he needs.
Final Notes
Scout is a loving dog with a gentle nature, but he does need the right home to help him thrive. With patience and consistency, he has the potential to be a wonderful companion.
