Rio – 9-Year-Old Tri-Colour Beagle

Rio is a handsome 9-year-old tri-colour Beagle looking for a new home.

Rio is a gentle, affectionate boy who forms strong bonds with his people. He loves nothing more than being close to his family, whether that’s curling up for a cuddle, snoozing nearby, or joining you on a leisurely walk.

He is fully house-trained and has never needed a crate, preferring to sleep happily in his own bed or on the floor nearby. Rio can be left alone for up to four hours when necessary and travels well in the car, making him an easy companion for everyday life.

Like any true Beagle, Rio is incredibly food-motivated and enjoys his meals of senior Wagg dog food mixed with fruit and vegetables, fed twice a day. He’ll happily investigate unsecured bins if given the opportunity, so food management is important. He also loves playing fetch with a tennis ball and enjoys his daily walks, where he can spend time exploring and sniffing to his heart’s content.

Rio has good recall, although he is currently walked on an extended lead. After being attacked by another dog as a puppy, he understandably became more wary around unfamiliar dogs. On lead, he may bark, growl or pull towards other dogs as he tries to protect himself. However, he currently lives successfully alongside a 10-year-old German Shepherd and could potentially live with another calm dog following careful introductions.

He also lives peacefully with two senior cats, suggesting he could live with cats again in the right home.

Health Information

Rio has no ongoing health concerns. He was recently treated for a tail abscess, which was diagnosed as a simple infection and successfully treated with antibiotics. He is wormed, microchipped and otherwise enjoys good health.

The Home Rio Needs

Rio would thrive with someone who has the time to offer him the companionship he craves. He is a loving, loyal Beagle who enjoys a steady routine, daily walks and plenty of affection. A quieter home with patient owners who understand his understandable nervousness around unfamiliar dogs would allow him to flourish.

He is frightened by fireworks and thunder, so a family willing to provide reassurance during loud noises would be ideal.

Rio has so much love left to give and deserves a home where he can once again be someone’s constant companion. In return, he’ll reward his new family with unwavering loyalty, gentle affection and all the wonderful quirks that make Beagles so special.
