Riley – Looking for Her New Home
Riley is an 8-year-old tri-colour female Beagle, 15 inches tall and weighing 16.5kg. She was vaccinated on July 2026 and is microchipped. Riley has environmental allergies, which are managed with Apoquel.
About Riley
Riley is a lovely, gentle Beagle who really enjoys people and company. At eight years old, Riley has slowed down a little and enjoys life at a more relaxed pace. She particularly loves exploring with her nose and would be happiest with owners who appreciate that her walks are often more about sniffing and investigating than covering lots of miles.
Training & Behaviour
Riley is housetrained and walks on a harness. She has not attended formal training classes.
She can be left for around 4 hours when another dog is present, but she cannot be left alone for this length of time by herself.
Riley is not crate trained.
She travels well and can be safely let off lead. She is not an escape artist from a secure garden.
She was destructive as a puppy but is not destructive now.
People & Children
Riley has never shown aggression towards people and loves being around them.
She can be nervous if other dogs are overly boisterous and jumping all over her, so she would appreciate canine companions who are respectful of her space.
Other Dogs
Riley is very calm around other dogs and is not reactive on lead.
When meeting dogs off lead, she tends to sit and sniff rather than rushing around.
She could live with another dog, although a calm, compatible companion would be preferable.
Cats
Riley’s reaction to cats is unknown, as she has not been tested with them.
Food & Enrichment
Riley is good around food and can have items taken from her. If she does steal something, she is happy to swap it for a treat.
She is fed at approximately 7.30am and 4.30pm.
Food-based enrichment is one of Riley’s favourite things. She particularly enjoys:
- Sniffing games
- Finding hidden treats around the house or garden
- Her treat ball, which she loves rolling around until the treats fall out
- “Find it” games
Exercise & Things Riley Loves
Riley absolutely loves to sniff, so her walks can be slow and leisurely.
Her ideal day would include plenty of opportunities to use her nose, explore at her own pace and spend time with her people.
She loves company, people and food-based games.
Things to Be Aware Of
Riley doesn’t enjoy going to the vets, so she may need some extra patience and support during veterinary visits.
She can also become anxious if other dogs are too pushy or jump all over her.
Riley’s Ideal Home
Riley would suit a home where:
- She will have plenty of human company
- Her owners understand that she cannot be left alone for long periods
- She can enjoy relaxed, sniffy walks at her own pace
- There is plenty of mental enrichment through scent and food games
- Any resident dog is calm and respectful of her boundaries
- She can have safe off-lead exercise
- Her environmental allergies and Apoquel treatment can continue to be managed
- She can enjoy a quieter, comfortable life appropriate for an eight-year-old Beagle
Riley is a gentle, affectionate girl who loves people, company and using her nose. She isn’t looking for a hectic lifestyle – she would love a home where she can spend time with her people, enjoy leisurely sniffy walks and have lots of opportunities to play her favourite food-finding games.
