Rex Ref 3501

Rex – 3 Year Old Male (Tri-Colour)

Rex is a 3-year-old tri-colour beagle Born September 2022, full of personality, energy, and affection. He is an active, intelligent boy who loves being around people and thrives on interaction.

He is castrated, microchipped, vaccinated, and up to date with worming and flea treatments. Rex is generally in very good health, although he occasionally requires his anal glands to be expressed.

About Rex

Rex is a loving and playful dog who enjoys being close to his family. He is full of character and has a fun, cheeky beagle nature.

  • Very affectionate and enjoys cuddles
  • Loves games, especially tug and chasing toys
  • Intelligent and enjoys learning (knows commands like “sit,” “go,” and even tricks like roll over)
  • Housetrained and sleeps well overnight in his crate

He forms strong bonds with his people and enjoys being involved in daily life.

Exercise & Lead Behaviour

Rex enjoys his walks but can be inconsistent on the lead:

  • Sometimes walks nicely, but can also pull strongly
  • Pulling is worse when following scents or if frightened
  • Nervous of loud noises (fireworks, bangs), which can cause distress on walks

He has improved with training but will need ongoing guidance and consistency.

Social Behaviour

Rex is generally social but can be a little sensitive:

  • Usually friendly with other dogs, especially beagles
  • Can react (bark/pull) if unsure, frightened, or if another dog/owner is nervous
  • Off-lead interactions in secure areas are mostly positive
  • May remember negative encounters and react to those dogs again

He enjoys playing with other dogs but can sometimes be a little intense initially.

Key Considerations

Separation Anxiety:
Rex has recently become more unsettled when left alone due to changes in the household:

  • Can bark, whine, or become destructive when anxious
  • Previously managed well for 3–4 hours, now less comfortable
  • Prefers routine and company

Sensitivity & Fears:

  • Very sensitive to loud noises (fireworks, thunder, bangs)
  • Can become distressed and try to escape the situation

Food & Cheeky Habits:

  • Very food-motivated and opportunistic
  • Will counter surf, check plates, and try to access food (including dishwasher!)
  • Needs consistent boundaries around food

Home Life

  • Crate trained (sleeps overnight in crate)
  • Can be left alone for a few hours, though currently needs support rebuilding confidence
  • Travels, but can be prone to travel sickness
  • Not an escape artist in a secure garden

Children & People

  • Has lived with older children (now adults) with no issues
  • Can bark at visitors initially but settles quickly with confident handling

Ideal Home

Rex would thrive in:

  • An experienced home, ideally familiar with beagles or scent hounds
  • Owners who can provide time, structure, and ongoing training
  • A home where someone is around most of the time or can help rebuild his confidence being left
  • A calm environment that can manage his sensitivity to noise

He could potentially live with another friendly dog.

Final Thoughts

Rex is a bright, loving, and energetic beagle who will make a wonderful companion in the right home. With patience, consistency, and understanding of his needs, he has so much to offer and will reward his new family with loyalty, fun, and affection.
