Oscar – Young, Energetic Beagle Looking for an Experienced Home

DOB: December 2023

Sex: Male

Castrated : No

Colour : Tri Colour

Weight: around 20kg.

Microchipped : Yes.

Oscar is a bright, energetic young dog who loves exploring the world with his nose. He enjoys trips to the beach, parks, and anywhere there are lots of exciting scents to follow. Like many Beagles, he can be strong on the lead and will pull when he picks up a scent or sees other dogs, but he does respond well to training and structure.

Reason for Rehoming
Oscar is being rehomed following the arrival of a newborn baby. Since the baby arrived, Oscar has shown signs of possessiveness over items he finds (such as socks or baby clothes), including growling and running away with them. While he has not caused injury, his behaviour indicates he is struggling to cope with the change and would be safer and happier in a calmer, child-free environment.

Home Life & Routine

  • Fully house-trained
  • Crate-trained
  • Sleeps in a crate in the bedroom at night and uses a crate downstairs during the day
  • Can become destructive if bored or left alone too long without stimulation

Behaviour & Training
Oscar has not attended formal training classes but is food-motivated and responds well to high-value treats such as cheese and sausage. He enjoys rough play games but can become over-excited and benefits from regular breaks to help him calm down.

He can guard items he has stolen, but will usually release them in exchange for higher-value treats. Around food bowls, he shows no aggression and is happy to be stroked while eating.

Dogs, Children & Other Animals

  • Has always been the only dog in the home; may be able to live with another dog following careful introductions
  • Generally social and interested in other dogs; may bark if another dog doesn’t engage
  • Would suit an adult only home
  • Unknown with cats, though he does bark at cats in the garden

Personality
Oscar is affectionate, cuddly when sleepy, and enjoys being bathed. He thrives on attention, play, and mental stimulation. With the right structure, boundaries, and positive-reinforcement training, Oscar has the potential to be a wonderful companion.

Ideal Home
Oscar would do best in:

  • An adult-only or older-teen household
  • A calm, structured environment
  • Owners with experience of Beagles or similar breeds
  • A home committed to ongoing training and enrichment

Oscar is a much-loved dog, and this decision has not been made lightly. His owners want to ensure he finds a home where he can feel secure, understood, and given the time and guidance he needs to thrive.
