Monty is an eleven year old tri colour male, who needs a new home as his family are not able to give him the time and attention that they would like.  He is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Monty is happy to go for a walk, and walks nicely on a lead.  He has not been let off lead. Monty travels well in the car.   Monty is excited to see other dogs, and will bark at them to get their attention.  He shared his home with a Golden Retriever until recently, when his companion sadly passed away.  This loss appears to have upset Monty, and he would love to be part of a home where he would have a dog around him again.  Monty really thrives on positive reinforcement.  He will growl and show aggression if he is backed into a corner in a situation he finds scary, which is why we cannot rehome him to a family with young children.  Once you are aware of his triggers, and how to help him manage his fear, these sort of incidents shouldn’t be a problem.

At home, Monty is house trained, but has not used a crate since he was a youngster.  He can be left alone for a few hours, but has always had another dog for company.  Monty’s new home must have a securely fenced back garden, as Monty has been known to scale fences which are five feet tall, and is a skilled high jumper.  Monty can be destructive of soft toys, and will gladly perform a taste test on anything he finds on the floor which interests him.  He can usually be persuaded to give up stolen items in exchange for a treat.

Monty has lived happily with a cat, so he could live in a house with a feline friend.  He would dearly love to have another dog to share his home with.  He does live with a child at the moment, but he will steal food and toys, so they are kept separated.  He is a big character, and loves long walks, unless it’s raining, in which case he’d happily hide under a bush until the sun reappears.  He loves to roll about in the garden on a sunny day, sunbathing and picking up the scent of the grass.  At the end of the day, he really enjoys being near his family, and will snuggle up close to you – anything for a bit of warmth and contact.
