🐾 Meet Bertie – An Energetic, Affectionate Beagle Looking for the Right Home

Name: Bertie
Date of Birth: June 2023
Sex: Male (neutered )
Colour: Tri
Microchipped: Yes

Reason for Rehoming

Bertie has developed serious conflict and aggression towards his brother.

Bertie also struggles with separation anxiety, and this decision has been made purely to ensure his wellbeing and give him the best chance of a calm, stable future.

Training & Daily Life

  • Lead walking: Wears a harness; pulls on collar and standard lead
  • Training classes: None attended
  • Housetrained: Yes
  • Crate trained: No – crates increase his anxiety
  • Left alone: Not suitable to be left alone
  • Travelling: Travels well in the car
  • Off lead: Yes, with good recall
  • Garden: Secure – not an escape risk

Behaviour & Social Notes

  • People: Generally affectionate and loving, but can show reactivity when on the lead
  • Dogs:
    • On lead: Reactive and can bark or show aggression
    • Off lead: Sociable, playful, and friendly
  • Cats: Unknown

Food & Possessions

  • Diet: Butchers whole meat, cooked mince, chicken, lamb, and kibble
  • Feeding times: Twice daily – 9am and 6pm
  • Around food: Eats from a slow feeder; bowl can be lifted without issue
  • Stolen items: Can be taken without problems

Sleeping Arrangements

Bertie sleeps on a spare bed in his owner’s bedroom and settles well, sleeping through the night from 9pm to 6am.

Personality & Interests

Bertie is a high-energy, affectionate young Beagle who loves:

  • Greeting people with a toy
  • “Find the kibble” games in the garden
  • Tug of war and ball games
  • Running freely in open spaces
  • Being brushed and groomed
  • Cuddles and affection

He has excellent recall, especially when rewarded (kibble in a container works well!).

Ideal Home

Bertie would thrive in:
✔ A home with experienced owners, ideally familiar with Beagles or reactive dogs
✔ Someone home most of the time due to his separation anxiety
✔ Access to secure outdoor space and regular exercise
✔ Calm, consistent handling and positive reinforcement

Final Thoughts

Bertie is a loving, playful, and energetic Beagle who needs the right environment to help him feel secure and relaxed. Away from conflict and with the right guidance, he has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion.
