Bella is a friendly and affectionate girl who loves a cuddle, particularly in the evening. She enjoys giving hugs by putting her paws on your shoulders and loves being close to her family. She understands a good range of commands including sit, lie down, paw, high five, roll over, down, no and stop.
Bella’s Personality
Bella can be nervous when meeting people she doesn’t know and will initially bark and may appear quite intimidating. She has jumped up at people in the past but has never bitten anyone. She can be more protective of her owner when they are present and will need someone who understands that she may need time and space when meeting new people.
Once she knows you, Bella is a very loving girl who enjoys affection and being part of the family.
Other Dogs
Bella enjoys the company of other Beagles and has successfully spent weekends and holidays living with family’s dogs. She could potentially live with another dog following successful introductions.
However, Bella can be nervous around unfamiliar dogs and particularly struggles when meeting dogs while on lead. She can become snappy when she feels restricted, so this will need to be managed carefully. There are certain types of dogs she particularly dislikes, including Alsatians and Huskies.
When she knows and likes a dog, she can happily play and interact with them.
Cats
Bella currently lives with a cat and gets along very well with him. She may bark at cats, but her owner feels this is because she wants to interact and play rather than through aggression.
Exercise & Recall
Bella walks well on a harness, although, like many Beagles, she will pull when she catches an interesting scent or decides she wants to go in another direction.
She can be allowed off lead by her current owner, who has worked on her recall. Her recall is generally good, although she can become distracted if she sees something particularly interesting. She can also be wary of strangers, lone walkers and people on bikes, so her owner calls her back when these situations arise.
A secure garden will be important, as Bella will investigate and explore if she finds a gap in a fence.
Home Life
Bella is happy being left for a few hours and is not destructive when left alone.
She previously slept in a crate but now enjoys having access to the downstairs of the house, where she will happily sleep in her own bed or on the sofa.
Bella loves her routine. She enjoys an early start, a morning walk, plenty of rest during the day and an evening walk.
She is also very food motivated and will take advantage of any unattended food. She has been known to investigate kitchen worktops, so food will need to be kept safely out of reach.
Bella’s Ideal Home
Bella would benefit from a calm, understanding home where her nervousness around unfamiliar people and dogs is recognised and managed appropriately. Her new family should be prepared to allow her time to build confidence and trust.
A home with older children would be ideal, and she could potentially live with another compatible dog following careful introductions. She could also live with a cat.
Bella loves having a good-sized garden where she can investigate and enjoy herself, and she would particularly enjoy a family who can maintain the routine of walks, rest and plenty of affection that she is accustomed to.
Bella is a very much-loved girl who will be greatly missed by her family. They feel that, following their change in circumstances, they can no longer give her the time and attention she deserves and want to find her a loving home where she can continue to thrive.
