Barney

Barney

Barney is a tricolour male, born on 21st August 2020.  He is looking for a new home as his owner’s work commitments have increased and he will not get the attention he needs.  Barney is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Barney can pull on the lead when out for a walk, but he has not enjoyed wearing a harness, so some refresher training on walking nicely to heel wouldn’t go amiss.  He has been allowed off lead in secure area, and will come back to you if you have high value treats.  Barney is happy to travel in the car once he’s been lifted in.  Barney is not an aggressive dog, although there was one isolated incident where he nipped his owner when he felt his food was going to be taken, Barney is also not great in stressful situations.  He loves to meet other dogs, and will pull on the lead to get closer to them and say hello.  Barney has enjoyed attending doggy daycare.

At home, Barney is house trained and crate trained, although he is not shut in his crate and just uses it as a place to snooze during the day.  He has only been left alone at home for half an hour, and is used to having company all day, so he would like to be part of a home where he will have minimal time alone.  Barney has grown out of his destructive phase, and has never tried to escape from his secure garden.  If Barney steals an item, he will usually trade it for a treat, unless it’s food, in which case he’ll eat it.

Barney is not a fan of cats, seeing them as something to chase, so must join a cat free home.  He has never lived with children, or spent much time around them, so would be happiest in a home without youngsters.  Older children, perhaps teenagers, could be considered as this probably wouldn’t be too much of an environmental change for him.  He likes a calm environment! Barney is a big fan of toys – either balls he can chase, or rope toys he can chew on, and like many beagles he loves to sunbathe in the warmest spot in the house.  He is a sociable hound, who likes all people except for his old vet and dog groomers, but will probably forgive anyone if they have cocktail sausages or a piece of chicken to offer him.
