This is Buster (Bridie Bastille from Fallowfield Beagles). Mum and dad adopted him from Beagle welfare when he was 9 months. Born October 7th 2007.
Tonight however my parents have had to make one of the hardest decisions they have made. Buster is an old man and he has not been well for some time. And so he has been put to rest.
Buster was our first family dog. Originally called Baxter, (their son), decided we didn’t like his name so we changed it to Buster.
As a pup and a young beagle, he took some getting used to. A lot and a lot of walking. A good amount of slippers. Socks. Sky remotes. Virgin remotes. Magazines. Shoes. Basically, anything he could reach was liberated from human hands. It was a steep learning curve for the family.
Mum and dad took Buster (and Jessie their second beagle from Beagle Welfare and now Willow, their third) on regular walking holidays to north Devon. Quite appropriate really as Buster did a great impression of Churchill so there was lots of fun on the beaches. Even seeing the Royal Marines conduct an amphibious assault and then receiving instructions as to how to get to the car park as mum and dad were lost in the dunes with the dogs.
Later when mum retired and dad was still working, Buster and Jessie, and now Willow spent a lot of time with mum keeping her company whilst dad worked. Needless to say, mum is devastated at the loss of her best 4 legged friend and little (21kg) mate and dad will be without his walking companion Buster.
Whenever visitors would come to mum and dad’s you would be greater by Buster barking at the window and when you got through the door he would keep barking until he got his biscuit. Typical beagle, food mad.
Buster is already so dearly missed by all the family. It will take some getting used to.
We love you, Buster.
