At just seven months of age Saffy (previously named Bobbie) came to us through Beagle Welfare in February 2010. Never having owned a Beagle before we were trusting everything that BWA described about her and travelled from Surrey to Stoke to collect her.
Saffy was the prettiest, sweetest-natured little soul. She settled very happily into her new home enjoying over the years the arrival into the family of no less than six grandchildren to join the three grandchildren already here. She was so loved by everyone, always gentle and caring and enjoying the company of both humans and other dogs which gradually arrived in the wider family.
She walked many a mile over the years, accompanied us on every summer holiday and thoroughly enjoyed her adventures. Her favourite activities involved following a good scent, chasing a ball in her younger days and attempting to steal anything edible – she did love her food!!
Walking Saffy was always a pleasure – she was a bit of a celebrity in the neighbourhood, admired by everyone and always greeted with a smile. When she was 2 years old she won the ‘prettiest bitch’ category in a local annual Dog Show which put her forward to the finals where she won ‘Best Dog in the Show’. Proud moment for a rescue dog!
She became unwell earlier in June but lost her fight to overcome symptoms of Cushing’s Syndrome and passed away quietly at home on her favourite bed on the warm evening of 17th June 2021, at just 12 years of age.
Our lives will never be the same without her companionship, she was ever-present in the room with us and disliked separation so we are missing her hugely and grieving her departure but happy that her suffering was short-lived. Good to imagine she is now busy exploring all that lies around the ‘Rainbow Bridge’.
