Otis is a gorgeous 6-year-old tri-colour Beagle with a big heart, a cheeky personality.
He is affectionate, funny, intelligent and always wants to be part of the action. Whether he’s following you around the house, curling up for cuddles on the sofa, or snuggling into bed at night, Otis simply loves being with his people. Ear scratches, belly rubs and kisses are among his favourite things, and he will happily repay them with endless affection.
An active boy, Otis enjoys exploring woods, fields and beaches, where he loves to run and play. He walks well on a harness and knows a range of commands including “wait”, “stop”, “walk nicely”, “leave”, “drop” and “come”. Like most Beagles, his nose occasionally gets the better of him, so secure areas are best when letting him off lead.
Otis is bright and eager to learn. He already knows lots of tricks including sit, down, paw, spin, roll over, jump, speak and kiss. He loves playing fetch, hide-and-seek with his toys, treat puzzles and chewing on antlers or rope toys. Soft toys don’t usually last very long, and if a stray sock appears, Otis will almost certainly claim it as his latest prize!
He is fully house-trained and crate-trained. His crate has always been his safe space, and he settles well in it. Otis can be left for short periods, although he does experience separation anxiety and may howl for a while before settling. His owners have seen steady improvements over time, and they believe this will continue with patient, understanding owners.
Otis travels well in the car and enjoys adventures. He has been on many long journeys and is always happy to hop in for his next outing.
He has always been gentle with people he has met. He can occasionally be unsure around people wearing hats, hoodies or using mobility aids, and may bark until he realises they are nothing to worry about.
Otis enjoys the company of other dogs but can be selective with unfamiliar entire male dogs, so introductions should be managed carefully. He regularly spends time with a professional dog sitter alongside several other dogs and settles well in that environment. Female dogs are generally no problem at all.
Around food, Otis has excellent manners. He happily waits for permission before eating and is comfortable having his food bowl handled. Like any self-respecting Beagle, though, he’ll investigate any unattended snacks if given half a chance!
Otis is looking for a home where he can continue to enjoy life, plenty of walks, lots of cuddles and, most importantly, people who understand that being close to his family is what makes him happiest. He would suit owners who are around for much of the day or who can gradually continue building his confidence when left alone.
Otis is full of character, love and typical Beagle charm. His family say he has brought them endless laughter and happiness over the years, and although saying goodbye is heartbreaking, they know the right home is out there waiting for this very special boy.
