Lou is a loving, affectionate and intelligent Beagle looking for a calm, structured home where he can enjoy the attention, routine and companionship he thrives on. Personality

Lou is affectionate, loyal and full of character. He forms very strong bonds with his humans and loves being close to them.

He particularly enjoys:

  • Sniffy countryside walks
  • Exploring new places
  • Campervan trips and car journeys
  • Sunbathing
  • Sofa cuddles under blankets
  • Food puzzles, Kongs and snuffle mats
  • Natural chews
  • Learning tricks and training for treats
  • Pub visits after a good walk

Lou is highly food motivated and very clever. He quickly learns routines and household patterns and thrives when life is predictable and structured.

Training & Behaviour

Lou is housetrained and reliably asks to go outside by barking at the back door.

He knows a range of commands including:

  • Sit
  • Wait
  • Down
  • Roll over
  • Paw
  • High five
  • Recall to whistle

He walks nicely with encouragement and treats, although he can pull when following scents. He has excellent recall potential in secure areas but is not routinely walked off lead due to his Beagle nose taking over.

Lou travels brilliantly in the car and enjoys road trips and adventures.

Resource Guarding & Stolen Items

Lou can steal items when bored or wanting attention, particularly children’s toys, slippers or food items. In many situations he will happily trade for high-value treats if approached calmly.

However, if Lou believes he has something especially valuable, he may become reluctant to trade and can growl to communicate discomfort. His owners have learned to respect these signals and safely manage situations without confrontation.

Around Food

Lou is extremely food driven and opportunistic. He will counter surf, investigate bins and scavenge if given the opportunity. His owners have child locks on kitchen cupboards because he learned how to open them himself.

He has excellent manners around his own meals:

  • Sits and waits patiently
  • Will not eat until given permission
  • Allows his bowl to be moved while eating

Behaviour Around Dogs

Lou is friendly and sociable with other dogs. He enjoys play with familiar dogs and has settled well during boarding stays alongside other dogs.

On lead he is generally calm and friendly, often sitting or lying down to greet approaching dogs politely.

Larger or very bold dogs can occasionally make him nervous, but he has never shown aggression towards other dogs.

Ideal Home

Lou would thrive with:

  • Owners experienced with Beagles or scent hounds
  • Active people who enjoy walking and exploring
  • A calm and structured household
  • Someone home for much of the day or with a predictable routine
  • People willing to continue positive reinforcement training

He would particularly love:

  • Countryside walks
  • Sniffing adventures
  • Food enrichment games
  • Lots of human companionship
  • A comfy sofa and blankets

Feeding & Routine

Lou thrives on routine and quickly learns household schedules.

Sleeping

Lou sleeps wherever he feels closest to his people:

  • Sofas under blankets
  • His own bed on the bedroom floor
  • Occasionally under the duvet beside his owners

He loves warmth, comfort and being near humans.

Final Notes

Lou is a wonderful, affectionate and deeply loyal Beagle who thrives with companionship, structure and outdoor adventure. He is looking for a home where his cleverness, sensitivity and strong Beagle instincts are understood and managed positively.

In the right environment, Lou is an incredibly rewarding companion.
