Shaun is a 4 year old, very affectionate little beagle. He loves people and a cuddle on the sofa (and in bed at night time). He loves other dogs and lives with 3 other beagle in his current foster home. He likes to play with other dogs and would benefit from living with another playful dog.
Training and Behaviour :
Lead walking : Will need some extra training with this as he wasn’t walked much in the past. He pulls on the lead and may benefit from using a harness instead.
Recall : Not Suitable to be let off the lead unless training was built up.
Being left alone : Shaun has very little experience of being left alone and suffers with separation anxiety. He will howl and become very distressed. This will need building up slowly over time.
Travelling : Shaun travels well in the car.
Crate trained : No
House trained : Yes
Destructive : No – Shaun has no interest in destroying toys or other items. He may steal things for attention but swaps for a treat.
Socialisation
People : No aggression shown, he loves human attention and interaction. He does like to mouth when he plays and is giddy but is very gentle and stops when told. He’s very well well handled and tactile.
Dogs : Loves other dogs, no aggression shown. Likes to play but also follows cues of the other dogs if they don’t want to play.
Living with other dogs : Very used to other dogs, he has always spent time around other dogs and ideally needs to live with one .
Cats : Could live with a confident cat who is used to living with other dogs. He sometimes barks at cats if he can’t get to them.
Feeding
Currently fed Hilltop Hypoallergenic Salmon and Potato food at 8am and 4pm
He has previously been quite fussy and only just started enjoying dry food at his foster home. He likes carrots and chicken ontop.
Sleeping arrangements
Shaun likes to start off the night in bed with his humans, he will then quite quickly decide to move off the bed onto a dog bed or the floor. He isn’t used to sleeping downstairs alone, so needs a home where he can sleep upstairs with human company. As his confidence grows and he settles, he may less and less choose to sleep on the bed. But he loves a cuddle!
Personality and likes
- Cuddles on the sofa and lots of human attention
- Playing ‘Bitey face’ with his beagle friends
- His voice! Shaun can be quite vocal, especially when playing
- Learning tricks – He can sit, lie down and give paw/high fives
- Being around people 24/7 – Shaun doesn’t like being left alone.
Ideal home
Shaun would benefit from
- Someone who is home all day or works from home – He will need very slow build up and training to begin to be left alone for short periods of time.
- Canine company – Shaun’s ideal home would have another Beagle/Dog who would be willing to play with and entertain him. He loves playing chase and ‘bitey face’
- An active home who will build up his training out on walks and give him lots of exercise and stimulation.
- Love! Shaun is a very sweet, affectionate boy who loves a tummy rub and soaks in as much attention as you will give him
